Une forêt en soi

In Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, every morning I walk down to the river. A steep path leads me to the St. Lawrence, an immense, majestic, and ever-changing river. I take a photo there before heading back. With each of these walks, walking becomes a realm of wandering where thoughts drift and images are born. It is from this experience that the installation “Une forêt en soi” (A Forest Within) is inspired.

At the invitation of the Maison de l’architecture Île-de-France, I conceived an installation for the Nuit Blanche in Paris on June 6, 2026. The work was produced at the Centre Les Récollets and presented in the convent chapel.
I offered visitors a stroll through a birch forest which, with the arrival of dusk, gradually transforms into a vast, ebbing wave, as if the sea were coming to inhabit the trees.

For this “Nuit Blanche”, I am transforming PVC pipes into a birch forest. Initially vertical and rigid, the work unfolds into a vibrant and kinetic structure through the use of phosphorescent pigments and motorisation which transforms according to the light environment.

Each birch tree bears a delicate phosphorescent pattern that creates the illusion of a curved line in the dark. Rotating on their own axis via a controlled motor, the trees interact and converse. This undulating landscape echoes the moon’s reflection on the river at night, when the sounds of wind and water blend together.
